Stephenie Meyer Vindicated

A woman named Jordan Scott filed a law suit against Stephenie Meyer for reportedly stealing the storyline for "Breaking Dawn" from her book called the "The Nocturne." Unfortunately, the judge wasn't on her side.

A judge slammed competing vampire author Jordan Scott, claiming her accusation that Meyer ripped off a book called "The Nocturne" was "deceptive" -- not to mention completely unfounded.

As TMZ previously reported Scott alleged the wedding, consummation and birth scenes in Meyer's book "Breaking Dawn" were suspiciously similar to scenes from "Nocturne" -- but the judge ripped Scott, saying she had "twice manipulated aspects of the subject works in order to create the appearance of similarity."

Stephenie Meyer's Oprah Interview

When the first book of the Twilight series was released in October 2005, no one could have guessed the phenomenon it would become. Four years later, 70 million copies have been sold worldwide. The books have spent 143 weeks on the New York Times best-seller list, and the first movie in The Twilight Saga grossed $380 million at the box office.

The story, a love triangle between a vampire, a human and a werewolf, has ignited an international frenzy, and the woman behind it all is 35-year-old author Stephenie Meyer.

Once a stay-at-home mom, Stephenie says the idea for Twilight came to her in a dream. "It was two people in kind of a little circular meadow with really bright sunlight, and one of them was a beautiful, sparkly boy and one was just a girl who was human and normal, and they were having this conversation. The boy was a vampire, which is so bizarre that I'd be dreaming about vampires, and he was trying to explain to her how much he cared about her and yet at the same time how much he wanted to kill her," Stephenie says. "It really captured my imagination." That dream became Chapter 13 of Twilight. Click here to read the rest

Stephenie Meyer speaks up about the Lawsuit Rumors

After several rumors going around that she's being sued for plagiarism, Stephenie Meyer finally speaks up by clearing things up on her website.
    April 21, 2009

There are a lot of things I should be doing updates on—for example, how awesome and successful the Book Babe event was, and how cool it was to meet all the other authors and hang out with them a little bit, and how much I appreciated all the tremendous support from the fans—but instead of commenting on happy things (which I admit I should have done a week ago; I was waiting for things to slow down for a day, silly me!), I'm commenting on ridiculous internet rumors so that my publicist's day will be just a little bit better.

I am not being sued. No one has contacted me or my publisher to inform either of us that I'm being sued. I never had a roommate named Heidi. There is no professor in the BYU English department named Dr. Peter Benton (though there is a character on ER by that name). And most of all, I began writing Twilight exactly the way I've told people in countless interviews and events for the past six years: I had a cool dream, I wrote it down, writing it down was really fun, so I kept writing until I had a whole book.

The sad thing about this silly situation is that so many legitimate news outlets reported it without doing any research at all to determine if there was any truth to the story. And at least two of these facts are really, really easy to confirm. Particularly, the one about the BYU professor. A simple on-line search can give you that information. Also, a quick call to my publisher would have cleared up the whole lawsuit story. (Kudos to the fansites who did their due diligence and debunked this rumor days ago.)

I guess the moral of the story is that—big surprise—you can't believe everything you read on the internet. Seems like it's April Fool's Day every day on-line. So no worries, the filming of New Moon continues uninterrupted. And, to end this on a bright note, the filming of New Moon continues to be awesome. It's all so beautiful! Chris Weitz is brilliant. Kristen, Rob, and Taylor are beyond words. I have gotten choked up more than once on set due to their amazing performances. I can't wait to see it all put together!

Stephenie Meyer Plagiarism law suit is a lie

There have been rumors going around that Stephenie Meyer is being sued for Plagiarism which also halted the filming of New Moon. According to the Examiner, these rumors are false. Summit denied the rumors and filming for New Moon is still going.
Summit Entertainment wants everyone to know that the rumor about Twilight author Stephanie Meyer being accused of plagiarism are not true.

This rumor is completely ridiculous. Four books have been released and widely read, one movie is released and widely watched at theaters and was a huge success on DVD. Another movie is filming and another is still casting. Out of the clear blue sky comes an allegation of plagiarism? Please, get a grip. (For anyone who doesn't know what Plagiarism is, it is the theft of someone else's writing).

Such a huge problem like this would of come to light years ago and nobody in Hollywood would of been able to hide it. It would of been on the cover of every entertainment section of every newspaper and magazine in the world.

This movie is a go, there is no stopping it. What needs to stop are bloggers and other journalists who don't do their job, pick up a phone and ask a simple question. Then actually listen to the answer and report the truth and not something made up to grab some readers.

"Tweens are the people this type of lie will hurt. "Tweens are waiting for this film and if they believe trash written by someone who doesn't know the first thing about Hollywood. The first thing about the movie industry, or even who to ask for information, it harms not only the person reading this trash, but the person who tries to write correct, verified information.

Stephenie Meyer in Vogue

“I had always told myself stories my whole life and assumed that everyone does,” Meyer says. “You know, it’s funny; in Jane Eyre, which is something I’ve read 40 million times, there’s this scene where she shows Rochester her paintings. And she explains that in her head it was so different. And Rochester replies that she captured just a wisp of what she was seeing. I used to paint, and I won a few watercolor contests, but I could never get it to look exactly like it did in my head. But with writing, I discovered I could get it to look exactly like it did in my head.”

Twilight Saga breaks Aussie sales record

Stephen King recently said some harsh things about Stephenie Meyer's writing, saying that she can't write worth a darn. But who cares about that now when you smash records previously set by Dan Brown's "The Da Vinci Code." According to Nielsen Bookscan, Stephenie Meyer's Breaking dawn sold 19,800 copies each week during January. The previous record for January sales was held by The Da Vinci Code which sold 14,500 copies in the first month of 2005.

The four books in Meyer's series are currently sitting at the top of the bestseller chart, with Breaking Dawn in first place followed by Eclipse, New Moon and Twilight.

As of today, Stephenie Meyer's Twilight saga has sold 42 million copies, with 1.4 million of those sales coming from Australia.

Stephenie Meyer: "People Who Mattered"

Stephenie Meyer made the list of Time magazine's "People Who Mattered".

Maybe Americans aren't ready for a Mormon presidential nominee yet. But they're more than ready to anoint a Mormon as the best-selling novelist of the year. The hero of Meyer's Twilight series — and hit movie — is a vampire named Edward who doesn't kill people and declines to sleep with, or bite, his girlfriend Bella. Meyer's religious upbringing taught her something few writers grasp, that fantasies can be about restraint as well as excess. Sometimes nice girls do finish first.

Stephenie Meyer is one of the Most Influential Women of 2008

Stephenie Meyer is included in MSN Lifestyle's Most Influential Women of 2008.
    Stephenie Meyer

The former English major and Brigham Young grad claims that she never sought a career in writing. In fact, she was perfectly content being a full-time mother to three boys. But after penning "Twilight", a book based a relationship between a male vampire and a high-school student, she was transformed into a literary luminary with a book debuting at number five on the New York Times bestseller list. Her fame rose in 2008 once Twilight was adapted for the big screen. The casting of English actor Robert Pattinson as Edward Cullen, the male vampire, sent female fans into hysterics and sold out theatres everywhere. The movie earned $72 million during opening weekend, giving Meyers a blood-sucking success any author would want to sink her teeth into. Click here to read the rest.

Valley's most fascinating people: Stephenie Meyer

Seems like The Arizona Republic is on the same wave length as Stephenie Meyers fans. We all think Stephenie and her books are fascinating. Read the article below.

"Cave Creek author Stephenie Meyer appears in Twilight, the movie, for less than 60 seconds. Watch for her: She's the pretty brunette ordering a vegetarian plate at a diner. She's so easy to miss, and to think that she's the real star of this show.

Meyer, 34, is the creator of the Twilight universe, a series of books that has sucked the nation into a tale of teenage vampires and their love woes. Meyer's four-volume saga has sold 10 million copies. The books spent all year on the best-seller list and even knocked Harry Potter off its lofty top spot."

It's Official! Chris Weitz will direct New Moon

I received a letter today from Chris Weitz and saw Stephenie's letter posted on her website regarding the new director for New Moon. I think its safe to say that Chris Weitz will be directing New Moon. Read the letter from Stephenie below:

    Hey guys,

There's been a lot of worry and speculation on the boards lately, and I want to let you know what's going on.

First of all, like you, I'm sad that Catherine is not continuing on with us for New Moon. I'm going to miss her, not just as a brilliant director, but also as a friend. She has such a distinct, authentic voice that did amazing things for Twilight. I'm looking forward to every movie she does in the future.

And she didn't leave us empty handed. We still get the benefits of her amazing casting and the beautiful visual world she created. This foundation puts us in a good place for New Moon.

Summit Films is moving forward with a new director for New Moon. They've asked Chris Weitz, director of American Pie, About a Boy, and The Golden Compass, to join us, and I am very pleased to announce that he's agreed to be a part of our Twilight world. I've had the chance to talk to Chris, and I can tell you that he is excited by the story and eager to keep the movie as close to the book as possible. He is also very aware of you, the fans, and wants to keep you all extremely happy. (Torches and pitchforks are not going to be necessary.)

I'm excited to work with Chris and I think he brings a lot to the table, not the least of which for me is that he wrote the screenplay for and directed one of my favorite movies of all time, About a Boy. I'm really looking forward to seeing his vision for New Moon.

Below is a letter from Chris to you. I think you'll get a glimpse in this note of how cool it's going to be having Chris as part of our community.
